Spontaneity rules

Both of us had been talking about a road trip for so long but never really got down to it.

So one night as we were enjoying dinner, we talked about going to Ipoh where his aunt was and have a taste of Ipoh food. Made some calls and such, and the plan was on for the next morning. AWESOME. Just what I needed after mocks :)

Asked mum for permission and she told me to try roti ayam that can be found in Kampar. Wondered who I could call up to bring us around Kampar, immediately Wan Theng came to my mind! So I texted her to ask her if she could bring us around the next morning, and she said sure. Everything fell through perfectly! Was so happy.

Texted quite a few people to follow us though, none of them said yes. Hence, it was a road trip with just the two of us.

We left at 6.30am only to avoid the early morning traffic jam. Once out of jam's way, we chilled at a mamak having breakfast and reading the newspapers, watching the sky slowly turn bright. What a nice way to start the day :) That took up nearly one hour, then we started on our journey.

Best purple jacket ever given to me by Lum Ying Ling on my birthday. It's just the right shade of purple, and also my first Roxy item! :D

Someone shouted "ROAD TRIPPPPPP!"

After 2 and a half hours, we reached the land of Tapah - reminded me alot of Jalan Besar in Kuantan with its old World War 2 shoplots.

After Tapah, going to Kampar took around 20 minutes. (without getting lost, which we did.)


Where Wan Theng stays - Westlake Homes - is the student accommodation for UTAR students. The houses are so neatly organized and new, three storeys high, and can fit about 16 people inside comfortably!

This is THE roti ayam to try - it's curry chicken wrapped inside a big loaf of bread. Very unique indeed.

Walking around the garden in Westlake. You can't tell from the pic but it was SWELTERING HOT! Don't know why but I think Kampar has a serious lack of trees? Hmm.. There were lots of open land with only newly planted trees, maybe in a few years' time it'll be much cooler.

Wan Theng brought us around UTAR after that. It's really big, so many buildings. Just getting to the cafeteria requires you to walk quite a distance if you're having classes in the other blocks.

Kampar is a very slow-moving town, really peaceful, great for retirement. LOL
It's divided into the old town and the new town, and you can really see that in the old town, there are lots of old people chilling in Chinese coffee shops whereas in the new town, you'll see much younger people hanging around. It was quite funny haha.

Dropped her off then made our way to Ipoh guided by signboards, a map and written directions.
We were to head to Elton's aunt's house.
Suddenly decided to drop by Gua Tempurung, as Wan Theng suggested. So we made our first detour of the day.

We only saw the outside of it though. Saw the restaurant, the toilets, but couldn't see the entrance and we were rushing anyway as we had to meet his aunt at about 2pm.

Reached the house without any problems at all. That's the importance of giving really accurate directions! One won't get LOST! She even told us which lane to keep to and such.

Ipoh town! It's divided into the old and new town as well.

Now we can proudly say "WE HAD KAI SI HOR FUN IN IPOH!"

Aunty Benny brought us around town in her car. Stopped by a couple of shops to buy chicken biscuits, heong peng and Ipoh white coffee.
I can safely say that Ipoh is quite similar to Kuantan - with the exception of not having a beach!

She left us on our own after that and drew us another map to guide us to Ipoh Parade and Jusco - the only malls in Ipoh. Jusco is apparently THE hangout spot as compared to Ipoh Parade.

We headed to Ipoh Parade anyway. Reached the parking lot, realised they didn't have any autopay systems, we had to pay RM1.50 at the entrance with COINS. So I was fumbling around my purse getting out all the coins one by one.

Ipoh Parade has shops similar to what we can find in Times Square. Those lala ones where occasionally you can get a real good steal but sadly I didn't manage to find any that day :(

Spotted a cybercafe there and the fella just HAD to go in and PLAY FARMVILLE. Apparently he had to harvest his coffee plots as they were mere hours from withering. I was lost for words.

We had Sushi King for dinner in Ipoh Parade.
Why Sushi King when there are several outlets in KL and even in Kuantan, I really don't know why.


I had my favourite smoked salmon sushi so it was okay :P Grabbed a few more plates off the conveyor belt which were priced the lowest albeit not as satisfying coz I just wanted to fill my tummy before it starts growling.

As we were leaving Ipoh, we made a detour to Tambun.
Yeah you heard me - that's the place where The Lost World of Tambun is situated, the waterpark similar to Sunway Lagoon.
It was located in Sunway City Ipoh. So weird to see the exact same dustbins they use in my college, also used in Ipoh. The Sunway aura was all over there haha.
Spotted Sunway College Ipoh. Needless to say, I'm lucky I'm studying in the main campus! And the Lost World of Tambun looked really interesting - really wanna spend a day there one day.

Learnt that Cameron Highlands is only an hour drive's away. YAY! More road trips please!

Reached KL at midnight and was drop dead tired. Kena some roadblock along the way although we were adhering to the speed limit. Quite a few cars were called to the side as well. It's the face la Elton, it's the face...
